Saturday Ride

The Saturday rides meet at 9:00am every week at Café St Germain on Crystal Palace Parade, leaving at 9:15am for a 2-2½ hour ride at a steady pace. We meet every Saturday throughout the year whatever the weather, unless it is really bad in which case it is possible that no one will be there. When meeting at the cafe please be aware of pedestrians and try not the block the pavement in front of the cafe whilst you are waiting for the ride to begin.

This ride is very sociable and aimed at road cyclists just getting into group riding, those looking for something fairly gentle and occasionally our racing cycilsts use the ride as an easy spin before their Sunday race. Non-members are welcome to come along and have one or two taster rides with us to see what we are like but if you do want to come out on our rides you must join Dulwich Paragon.

Because of the growing popularity of the Saturday ride we now stop briefly at Elmer's End to split the group (often 60+ riders) into three groups, slow, medium and fast. This is to ensure we cause as little aggravation to other road users as possible and that everyone gets a ride at a pace that they like. When waiting at Elmer's End please stop off of the road and also be careful not to block the pavements or driveways there. The quicker groups set off first with the last group being the slowest. The slow group will wait to help anyone with punctures or mechanicals and make sure everyone gets back to Crystal Palace.

This ride aims at a 15mph average speed and the route is fixed at 30 miles round trip out into the country lanes around Biggin Hill: Anerley Hill, Elmers End, West Wickham, Corkscrew Hill, Layhams Lane, Beddlestead, Church Hill, Rag Hill, Spinning Wheel, Grays Road, Cudham Lane, Downe, New Road Hill, Jackass Lane, West Wickham, Elmers End, Crystal Palace.  Click here for a route map (approx 1MB) and click here for a route card.

Please remember bring with you at least: 2 inner tubes, pump, drink, food, helmet and suitable clothing for the weather conditions, money and a mobile phone could be very useful too! Also be sure to check your bike before you leave home to make sure everything is working properly.

All riders must follow the Highway Code at all times when riding with Dulwich Paragon. This includes: riding no more that two abreast and riding in single file to allow traffic to pass on narrow roads, obeying traffic lights and signs, not riding on pavements and however tempting not abusing other road users.

If you are new to riding in a group then please have a look at our getting started page here for some basic guidance on riding in a large group.

Dulwich Paragon also run a longer, earlier Saturday ride. Have a look at it here.
