Monthly Introductory Ride

Thinking about joining Dulwich Paragon? This is where to start.

Every first Saturday of the month, we invite non-members to come on one of our regular club runs. It’s a chance for you to ride with us, chat to us, and find out if Dulwich Paragon is the right club for you.

It’s not a race, and it’s not a test – it’s simply a chance to ride 55km with us into some lovely country roads. As long as you’re generally pretty confident riding your bike on the road and can manage that kind of distance, we welcome riders of all experience and ability.

If you have any questions please e-mail membership@dulwichparagon.com.

Before the ride

December Intro is postponed to 9th December due to risk of ice.

To help us know who is coming, please sign up in advance at RiderHQ

Make sure you have a roadworthy bike with working gears and brakes, straight and true wheels, properly inflated tyres, and (ideally) mudguards if it’s wet. Drop handlebars are ideal but not mandatory.
Wear appropriate clothing – for example a jersey or jacket with pockets, padded shorts or tights, gloves/mitts, and a jacket or gilet if it’s wet and/or cold. But wear what you are comfortable with – if Lycra isn’t for you, that’s fine. We strongly advise wearing a helmet but it is not mandatory.
Bring at least one full water bottle, two if it’s hot. A snack for mid-ride refuelling is recommended.
Bring a bike multi-tool, a mini-pump, and tyre levers in case you have a mechanical. And it’s a good idea to bring emergency contact details in case of an accident.

The ride

Arrive at Herne Hill Velodrome for 9:00 where a member of the club committee will give you a quick briefing about the club and the ride. Note that there is no parking inside the velodrome – it’s best to ride there.
We set off in groups of up to 10, fastest first, steadiest riders last. Each group will have at least 2 DPCC riders to act as guides and keep the group together. Here is the route we follow.
We observe the Highway Code. We obey stop lights, ride no more than two abreast, and don’t ride on the pavement. Follow your group leader’s instructions at all times. Riders must take personal responsibility for their own safety.

After the ride

Enjoy a well-earned coffee and cake at the café in Crystal Palace! It’s also a chance to quiz our members further about the club and our activities.
Then if you’ve decided that Dulwich Paragon is the right club for you, head over to the “Join” page to complete the membership process.
