Dulwich Paragon has a proud racing heritage, and if you’ve got the legs, then we’ve got the races! From the Wally Gimber Trophy National B road race, won by names like Alex Richardson and Bradley Wiggins, to the DPCC Track Open on our doorstep at Herne Hill Velodrome, racing really is in our blood.
If you want to race, just make sure you take out British Cycling Race Silver or Race Gold membership when you join us – or you can purchase a day licence for each event.
Once you’re in the club, getting involved is easy – there’s a lively WhatsApp group for each discipline where you can chat to team mates, hear about events in advance, and get advice on things like getting race accreditation or simply how to win.
Road Racing
As well as the Wally Gimber Trophy, the club has promoted the hugely popular Crystal Palace Crits since 2012 on Tuesday evenings in Crystal Palace Park. We also promote numerous other crits and road races each season. Our riders compete across London and the South on closed circuits such as Hog Hill, Hillingdon, Cyclopark, and Velopark, and in local road racing leagues – and we’ve seen many progress to Cat 2 and beyond. 2022 saw the inaugural racers’ training camp in Mallorca which will be repeated in 2023 and will hopefully become an institution.
Off-Road
With self-contained courses, technical challenges, soft landings, and plenty of fun mud, more and more of our members are racing off-road. In cyclocross there’s the London & South-East Cross League, where we don’t just compete but promote events as well, the East Kent and Central leagues, and great events at Herne Hill Velodrome like Muddy Hell or the New Year Madison. Plus those with straight handlebars are catered for by the Beastway and Gorrick MTB series.
Track
With Herne Hill Velodrome as our spiritual home, we couldn’t be better placed for track racing. Whether it’s the season-long Wednesday night Track League, the Vets League, or the numerous Track Opens (including our own), there’s no shortage of races to enter. The club has a fleet of track bikes, so there’s no financial penalty for giving it a try – plus you’ll have access to training and skills sessions on our doorstep at Herne Hill and at the Olympic velodrome.
Time Trials
As a Dulwich Paragon member, you’ll be able to enter all the TTs and hill climbs run by Cycling Time Trials (you won’t even need a British Cycling license), and you’ll find many of our more slippery members at these events. Plus the club runs its own road bike TT series, the Harry Must trophy, and the annual club hill climb in October – all on roads easy cycling distance from London.
